Take Action to prevent municipalities from punishing people for experiencing homelessness

Take action today to stop Illinois municipalities from punishing people for experiencing homelessness. HB 1429 is Illinois’ response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s Grants Pass v. Johnson decision, which determined that people experiencing homelessness can be arrested and fined for sleeping outside even when there are no safe alternatives.

The Illinois House of Representatives Housing Committee is holding a hearing on this bill THIS MORNING. Please submit a witness slip as a PROPONENT of “HFA 3” to help move this bill forward NOW.

Organization/Individual

If you aren’t designated and authorized to represent an organization or group in an official capacity, write “Self” for “Firm/Business or Agency” and “NA” for your “Title” and leave “Representation” blank. Organizations should designate only one person to complete the witness slip on their behalf.

Under "Position"

Under “Position,” select “HFA 3” for Legislation and “Proponent” for Position and click “Add Position.”

Under "Testimony"

select “Record of Appearance Only.”

Submit

After agreeing to the “Terms of Agreement,” click on the “Submit Witness Slip” button.

You’ll receive a copy of your witness slip via email. If you create an account on my.ilga.gov, you can manage/edit your witness slips.
