CCH has long convened a coalition of community and advocacy groups pushing for solutions to address homelessness throughout the city of Chicago. Together, we are pushing city leaders to provide more funding for the solutions that help people exit homelessness or remain housed: affordable housing and services that meet people’s needs for long-term stability.

Our current campaign, Keep Chicago Housed, is focused on securing urgently needed funding in the 2027 City Budget. Drastic federal cuts may put formerly homeless Chicagoans at risk of losing their homes. Meanwhile, local housing programs with a track record of helping people exit homelessness are also facing unexpected funding shortfalls.

Our Keep Chicago Housed campaign is asking city leaders to include these essential priorities in the 2027 city budget to prevent about 3,000 people from losing their housing:

$15 million to protect housing and services that are now at risk due to federal funding cuts

$13 million for the Chicago Low Income Housing Trust Fund to provide housing for people with very low incomes

$2 million for the Flexible Housing Pool to support Chicagoans with serious physical and mental health needs or people returning from jail or prison with a stable place to live and needed services

According to CCH’s most recent estimate, more than 58,000 people experienced homelessness in Chicago during 2024, sleeping on sidewalks, on couches, and in shelters. As rents continue to rise and wages aren’t keeping pace, even more of our neighbors are forced into homelessness or housing instability. That’s why we’re fighting to protect existing programs, respond to harmful cuts to federal funding, and invest in long-term solutions.

The Keep Chicago Housed campaign is part of our coalition’s broader effort to demand our city invest in solutions at the scale necessary to effectively address homelessness. With our partners, we are working to ensure every Chicagoan has a safe place to call home.
