Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness joined organizations such as Franciscan Outreach, The Chicago Help Initiative, Ignatian Spirituality Project, The Night Ministry, and Chicago Partners General Fund as one of the official Winter Walk 2026 partners. Hundreds of people came together in Humboldt Park on the morning of February 8, walking two miles to raise awareness, end stigmas, and demand change.
”“I think people feel more concern for their unhoused neighbors when Chicago's winters get bitter or last too long,” said associate board member Lindsay Welbers. “I always feel better when I take action, and I know that's true for many of my friends and loved ones.”
With the help of our partners Back on my Feet Chicago, Inner Voice, and The Orange Tent Project who joined our team this year, together we raised more than $10,000! We are extremely grateful for our 90 fundraisers who secured 157 donations by asking their loved ones to support their efforts.
Winter Walk is more than just a walk, it’s a visible commitment to compassion for our communities and a call to action. Our community of staff, grassroots leaders, volunteers, and clients answered the call. Winter Walk’s national organizers intentionally chose February, one of the coldest months of the year, to remind us how difficult it is to get by without a home during extreme weather, but that solutions are possible when we work together.
”“It felt good to be in the movement for a good cause,” said board member Evie Alexander. "I’m excited for next year!”
What makes the Winter Walk so special is that we are not only doing something for the people we serve, but we’re doing it alongside those we serve. We understand that the people closest to the problems are also closest to the solutions. This event amplifyed the vital work all of our fellow Chicago advocates and service providers are doing, fighting against homelessness and centering people with lived experience.
We hope you’ll join us next year for Winter Walk 2027!
