Earlier this month, CCH was proud to cheer on its 10th annual team of runners participating in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. This group has raised over $115,000 so far to support our work and the fundraising continues in the post-race afterglow.
Over half of the 63-person team made their Chicago Marathon debut while making the miles matter by going the distance for CCH. Some had close ties to CCH already, like our very own Director of Communications, Claire Sloss, who ran her second Chicago Marathon supporting CCH a decade after she helped build our Marathon team. This time Claire recruited her partner, Ralph Tobias, to run his first Marathon as well. Some CCH staffers helped their partners to stage creative fundraising efforts to fuel their Marathon campaign; Owen Murk and Sue Um, CCH’s Scholarship & Streetlight Coordinator, sold tasty homemade Irish soda bread and Irish butter around St. Patrick’s Day. Jameson Beretta and his spouse Christy, who serves as CCH’s Associate Director of Equity and Transformation, staged two Mahjong tournaments. These tournaments were so successful that Jameson took the honor of the team’s top fundraiser!
Our team’s fundraising success was propelled by the ingenuity and creativity of our runners. Sammy Ly from Memphis sold Pokémon cards to help meet his fundraising goal. Francesca Santos sold coffee to do the same. Khadejia Sawyer decided to run the 26.2 miles as way to celebrate her 26th birthday. We are grateful to every single member of our running team!
We are recruiting people for our 2027 Chicago Marathon team and interest is high. If you know someone that is interested in participating, please direct them to this page to fill out our short interest form.
