Take actionĀ today to support students experiencing homelessness across Illinois.Ā For over fifteen years, Illinois has neglected to fund homeless education, which would support school districts inĀ taking stepsĀ toĀ identifyĀ andĀ assistĀ students experiencing homelessness.Ā Illinois school districtsĀ identifiedĀ almostĀ 50,000 students experiencing homelessnessĀ in 2025, but anĀ additionalĀ 55,000 homeless students may have gone unidentified and therefore not provided with needed support.Ā
AsĀ homelessness continues toĀ riseĀ and the federal administrationĀ attemptsĀ to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education,Ā it isĀ crucialĀ that we reinstate funds for homeless education. CCH is advocating for $5 millionĀ designatedĀ inĀ theĀ IllinoisĀ StateĀ Board ofĀ Educationās (ISBE)Ā budget to provide much-needed funding for school districts to better support homeless students.Ā Ā Ā
TheĀ Elementary & Secondary Education AppropriationsĀ CommitteeĀ is holding a hearingĀ onĀ this budget requestĀ TODAY at 2pm.Ā Before then, pleaseĀ submitĀ a witness slip as a PROPONENT ofĀ the “Original BillāĀ to help move thisĀ forward. Ā Ā Ā
