CCH-led programs highlighted in national policy brief

The Institute for Children & Poverty of New York City released a policy brief today on homeless families in Illinois and Chicago. The brief describes how Chicago’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness has changed the way Chicago deals with homelessness by moving to a “housing first” strategy that aims to move people quickly into housing and providing them with services once they are housed.

Homeless youth -- a Trib profile, and a meeting with Mayor Daley

The HELLO group for street youth is profiled in a touching feature story published Jan. 31 in the Chicago Tribune's Sunday Magazine.

A Facebook vote for youth provider TLP!

Teen Living Programs (TLP) serves homeless and unaccompanied youth, one of the respected providers where our youth attorney offers weekly outreach. Through a nationwide contest on Facebook, TLP has a chance to win a large grant from JPMorgan Chase Bank. (In a separate effort, Chase also generously funds our Law Project’s back-to-school outreach in the Austin neighborhood.)

State budget cuts: Like choosing between food & shelter

Chicago Coalition for the Homeless is an active member of the Responsible Budget Coalition, made up of more than 150 organizations across Illinois.

"We, as a people, will get to the promised land"

Dr. Martin Luther King uttered these words on the eve of his untimely death. Of course, he spoke in particular to the black community. But I believe he had a larger meaning in mind as well: During his life he evolved his understanding and advocacy to encompass the eradication of poverty.  His passion -- so inspirational still, 41 years later -- was to lift our nation's people out of the racism and poverty that crippled millions of Americans.
